Chapter 2 of Life Begins At Midnight by Retired Detective Chief Superintendent Robert Colquhoun

Det. Sup. Robert Colquhoun Mentioned in an Article About Safecracker

This calls for another chapter from his book when I get home this weekend!

"Johnny Ramensky Was The Expert Safecracker Who Never Harmed A Soul And Stole Nazi Secrets From Hitler's Henchmen. And No Jail Could Hold.. Gentle Johnny" is the article here in the Daily Record.
"But Ramensky had earned grudging respect even from the police In 1962 Det. Supt. Robert Colquhoun, a retired cop who knew Ramensky well, received a letter from his old adversary. Mr Colquhoun had fallen ill. Ramensky sent him a letter from jail with his good wishes for his speedy recovery and telling him that he'd been taking too much out of himself chasing him.
Mr Colquhoun said: 'Like most policemen who have come in contact with Ramensky, I find him an engaging character, the kind of man who, applying his brain to another, more acceptable, type of occupation, could probably have made good.' "

Life Begins At Midnight by Robert Colquhoun

Unlike the Rossdhu book, you probably won't find a copy of this posted anywhere on the internet. I wished the feel of this book could have been captured for the newsletter and realized it really couldn't be done unless quotes were used from it. I picked Chapter 4 to reproduce here plus all of the illustrations. If you all are interested I can eventually put the whole book up on the blog.

Alastair McIntyre of Electric Scotland has posted all of Sir Iain's Highland Gatherings and John Colquhoun's The Moor And The Loch (1841). We can certainly do that here with Det. Colquhoun's book.
