Sir Iain Colquhoun in Life magazine June 3, 1940

Once again, thanks to Ida Calhoun Scott of Austin, TX for first bringing my attention to this photo. This issue of Life was a "special", I think anticipating the involvement of the US in the World War brewing at the time. Sir Iain's photo is on page 77 of Volume 8 Number 23. You can still find copies occasionally on auction sites like e bay.

Obituary of Juanita Calhoun Moreland

From Ida Calhoun Scott. This notice looks like it was cut out of the Austin, TX newspaper.

There is a Calhoun Road that crosses I-75 (with no access) around Cordele. It may have been named after her family. Many roads, towns, counties, etc. in GA are named after John C. Calhoun.

Ida Calhoun Scott's mother

was a journalist and an Army wife much of her adult life. Ida Calhoun Burritt developed a habit of collecting newspaper articles with the name Calhoun or other spellings, and she did it all over the world as she traveled with her husband in the Army. Ida C. Scott has sent me quite a few, and I'm glad that I now have a place to share them with you. These two are WWII era. The Time article doesn't have a date. (Click on the picture to make it larger)

Col. Calhoun's article has legal notices on the back dated 3 January 1949:
