Laura Kilpatrick Spirit Award

Laura was our current President's late wife. This award is presented at the Glasgow, Kentucky games held each summer. I found this flyer for the first award quite by accident. Laura is remembered by many of us, and I'm so glad I started this blog to preserve items just like this.

An Email From Alyce:

Greetings clansmen!

I hope all of you have been enjoying the summer and have been able to attend a Highland Game or two. We have been ecouraging everyone to submit information for Colquhoun tents on our calendar and hope that has been beneficial to you. Don't forget to add 2009 dates as they come up.

The site has been busy and we have had lots of visitors. If you haven't signed the guest book please do! It's great to hear from everyone. Thanks to Sam and Vicki Overstreet in New York and Tom Hodges of the NA Society for helping us get the word out.

We haven't added a lot over the summer other than our Scottish tidbits. We still have lots of projects in the works though so check the site often. As always, please don't hesitate to contact me with ideas, suggestions or something you would like to add to the site.

Yours aye!

Alyce

Taste: The Story Of Britain Through Its Cooking by Kate Colquhoun

I'm on a "Google Alert" for "Colquhoun". This book comes up all the time, so I had to get a copy. I've loved to cook since I was a teenager and have the fortunate home life where I don't have to cook all the time, so it's a hobby. Just this past year I learned about verjus which intrigued me because it was used in medieval cooking. I bought a bottle and tried a braised chicken recipe with it that turned out pretty well. "Verjus" is not in the index for Taste. If I find something I can try to prepare out of this book I'll share it with you.

This book is readily available all over the Internet. A lot of people use Amazon which offers used books. I also use Alibris.

This caught my eye right away. My middle name is Calhoun and my last is Hodges. I thought Chaucer's cook looked like my dad. Although I never thought of Dad as "swarthy", he did have very dark hair and eyes when he was young.

My Calhoun connection comes from his side of the family.

Received In The Mail

Probably in anticipation of The Gathering scheduled to happen next July. It's not too early to begin planning for this! I believe Colquhoun is going to have our own tent at this event. I'll post more specific details next month.
