Tartan Day April 6th

There are several web sites on the internet you can find about Tartan Day. It gets more popular every year!

President George Bush today signed a document proclaiming April 6, 2008, as National Tartan Day!
This is a huge victory for us Scottish Americans. We give humble thanks to the members and associates of The Scottish Coalition USA, and many of you, for your ten years of hard work to make this possible.

Since the passing of Senate Resolution 155 in 1998 and House Resolution 41 in 2005, The Scottish Coalition and others have been actively asking the American-Scottish community to request the President of the United States to sign a Proclamation proclaiming April 6, in perpetuity, as
National Tartan Day. Today's Presidential Proclamation makes National Tartan a National Holiday Observance on every April 6th, similar to Flag Day, thus placing National Tartan Day on the official United States of America calendar.

Happy National Tartan Day!

Thanks to the Scottish District Family Association for this pin. My last name, Hodges (Calhoun is my middle name), is associated with the City Of Glasgow District. I was thrilled when Judi Lloyd started this organization recognizing the of millions of us with Scottish heritage not just associated with a Clan organization.



Myself on the right next to Dr. Phillip D. Smith author of Tartan For Me. He looks a little fresher than I do because I marched with the Colquhouns first, ran around the field, changed from a Colquhoun kilt to a City Of Glasgow kilt, then marched with the SDFA in their first parade at Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, 2007.

Sir Iain Colquhouns World War I Regiment

Sir Iain was chief of the Colquhouns from 1910 until 1948. Also in 1910 he was commissioned into the Scots Guards. He served in The Great War (WWI) in this regiment. This postcard from the Imperial War Museum shows what the uniforms looked like during WWI:
